Mr.Comer, a graduate of Americus High received his Bachelors and Masters degree in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1964 he resigned from his manufacturing job of seven years to form his own company, Metalux Lighting Inc. |

He located Metalux in Americus. The company produces commercial and industrial lighting equipment, both fluorescent and high intensity flood lighting. Metalux began operations with seven employees in 1965. The company grew to over 1100 employees by 1984 with manufacturing facilities in Americus, Preston, GA., Ellaville, GA., and Eufaula, Al. Metalux became the largest independent and second largest national producer of commercial & industrial lighting equipment with sales in all fifty states and several foreign countries. In 1985 Metalux became part of Cooper Lighting. In 1987 Larry organized and began operations of Caravelle Power Boats, a producer of lake boats & off shore sport fishing boats. Today the company employs approximately 120 people in Americus. He served as the first Chairman of the Georgia Sate Board of Technical & Adult Education. Other Board service, both public and private, include Georgia Southwestern Foundation, Georgia State Board of Industry & Trade, GA Tech National Advisory Bd., GA Tech Research Institute Bd., GA State Chamber of Commerce, Sumter Regional Hospital and other college and industry boards. He received the SBA National Small Businessman of the Year Award at the White House from the President in 1977. Senator Sam Nunn presented him with the Georgia Small Businessman of the Year Award in 1976. During the past year he has served as advisor and mentor with management members of nine independent businesses.
